AI ignores half your prompt, so build an orchestrator

Illustration titled "The AI dilemma: creativity vs. obedience": a puzzled person points at a flowchart of clear rules while a robot paints an abstract blot on an easel.

"Yes, you told me. I just didn't do it."

That's AI responding to your carefully crafted instructions ๐Ÿ™ƒ

You write a beautiful prompt. Clear rules. Principles. Step-by-step logic.

AI executes maybe half. The other half? Ignored.

You ask: "Didn't I tell you not to write this?"

And it goes: "Yeah, you did." ๐Ÿคท

This is not a bug. This is what AI is. It does creativity.

Following your checklist? Not what this flower was raised for ๐ŸŒธ

Here's what I see people do: they try to make AI execute complex sequential workflows.

AI fails.

They get frustrated.

They try to approach it as classic programming by adding more and more instructions: "CRITICAL", "IMPORTANT".

Both paths miss the point.

Think about what individual productivity is coming from.

Daily rituals: wake up at the same time every day. Make the bed. Brush teeth. Then rest. Rigidity.

Inside the rigid web, it contains rituals with space for creativity: a 2-hour coding session, a 2-hour brainstorming. And then reflect on your day before going to bed.

As James Clear puts it in Atomic Habits, the rigidity saves you from decision fatigue and turns creativity into repeatable productivity.

Structure + space for new.

This is what turns creativity into repeatable productivity.

Same with AI systems.

Classical algorithms are dumb but obedient.

They fail on any unexpectedness and can't create anything new.

But 100% reliable and repeatable, you always know what to expect.

AI is flexible but unreliable.

It will surprise you. Sometimes brilliantly. Sometimes terribly ๐ŸŽฐ

The solution: conscious synthesis โ€” rigid systems + creative AI.

Build an orchestrator.

Step A, step B. If step B returns X, repeat step A; otherwise, do step C.

No step left, no step right.

Use AI inside the step, don't allow AI to decide what to do next: A or C.

Don't try to put everything on AI's shoulders; it is flexible but not repeatable.

Don't try to avoid using AI at all; algorithms are repeatable but not flexible.

Real results come from deliberately combining both ๐Ÿ”ง
