Juniors aren't disappearing, the tool is changing

Illustration of a surprised junior engineer holding a laptop while half of his body dissolves into pixels and code symbols.

"Juniors are disappearing. There's no work for them anymore."

I keep hearing this. And honestly? I'm not convinced.

Here's what I’m actually observing: the tool is changing, not the profession.

A year ago, a junior needed to learn React.

Now, a junior needs to learn Claude Code.

That's it. That's the whole revolution.

The best analogy? Tractors and horses.

When the internal combustion engine appeared, tractors replaced horses in the fields. There was a transition period, sure.

But here's what happened: young people who quickly learned to work with tractors — they came in and displaced the farmers who insisted on doing everything with horses because they "didn't want to use the new thing."

Same story. Different century.

And the other thing is the math that few people talk about.

Yes, AI writes code faster.

But if you take a task end-to-end, it doesn't get done 5x faster. It gets done maybe 30% faster.

So the market "shrank" by 30%. But the amount of work?

According to my research, it grew by 50%. Maybe 100%.

Because AI has created entirely new business niches.

New products, new ideas, new automation needs — way more than existed a year or two ago.

Will there be a transition period? Sure.

Maybe six months. Maybe a year.

But the work isn't disappearing.

There will be more of it. It's just going to look different.

And those Juniors who adapt fast? They'll be fine.

Actually, they'll be better than fine.
